Recently, I was traveling and ended up staying at a hotel I have frequented before.

One morning, while heading to the fitness center (AKA, a room with the beds removed and a couple of treadmills thrown in), I had a member of the hotel staff, who was a nice gentleman who appeared to be in his later years, strike up a conversation with me as he was clearing out the trash cans around the lobby and hallway.

He began to talk about age and what he would do if he were younger and had the energy.

He discussed all the dreams he had and what he never went for and what he did and didn’t do.

I got excited about the opening opportunity I was provided, wherein I thought I could help him.

I began to mention an energy healing technique I had read about where some practitioners discuss how to use energy in order to slow down and even reverse aging and even boost their energy levels.

And I was so excited to share it with him.

In my head, I had a solution to his “problem.”

After I got done excitedly explaining the techniques and recommending some books, he politely took a thoughtful moment, looked at me with a slight, calm smile and said, “Wow, that’s really interesting, but I’m ok, thanks.”

And I saw the look of contentment in his eyes; he wasn’t worried about slowing down or reversing aging.

He wasn’t worried about getting more energy and more years to get out there and achieve or do more.

He was simply content enjoying his life and enjoying his occupation.

It’s kind of the same as when someone brings up manifesting abundance, and someone says they are content with what they have.

No struggle, no wants, no grasping-just a quiet contentment and an enjoyment of their day.

And this isn’t to say that there isn’t a whole world of good and joy to be felt from using energy techniques, achieving things, and feeling younger (insert positive benefit here).

But it serves as a simple reminder that really, at the end of the day, aren’t we all looking for that quiet, peaceful contentment?

And I think many of us might be looking for it in all kinds of busy, roundabout ways.

But contentment appearing in mindful individuals can be found in the simplest of things and in the most mundane of places.

Because contentment doesn’t actually have to have all its ducks in a row and all of its boxes ticked (despite popular belief).

It’s always here if you just pay attention to the present moment.

This lovely man gave off a silent message that he knew he was an eternal being, and so, this knowing completely nullified the need to rush, be, do, or have, and reminded me of the power of quiet grace.

I hope this has been a reminder for you to tap into that place of contentment, even in the most mundane of places or situations.

Like cleaning out trash cans in a lobby.
